I’m not sure if I saved Dugan or if he saved me

I’m not sure if I saved Dugan or if he saved me. A couple of summers ago was a very low point in my life and I wanted a dog that would be loyal and friendly but that would also give the appearance of being a guard dog with a good bark. I always wanted a Weimaraner so I contacted our local rescue group and made an appointment to visit. There were several dogs, but it was apparent immediately that Dugan was going to go home with me. He had a rough summer too; he was found roaming a neighborhood, the animal shelter that picked him up (Bella Vista) believed he had been on the run for some time. He was very malnourished, had broken teeth from eating rocks, and had a hot spot the size of a dinner plate on his left hindquarter. He was skin and bones only weighing 60 pounds. Weimaraner rescue nursed him back to health, they had him about 6 weeks before he was in any condition to be put up for adoption. By the time I met him he was about 66 pounds and in much better condition, he was very sweet and attentive, but not obnoxious. So he came home with me on a “trial” basis. I think before we even got to the house he had bonded with me. He immediately fit in with my other dogs and was friendly to all of my friends and family. I knew within the first day he was in his forever home. He had literally kept me going through a very difficult period of my life. He makes me laugh, when he stretches he moo’s like a cow. He can fall asleep sitting up. We’ve done basic and intermediate obedience class and he has done real well. He became a certified therapy dog last summer. Dugan loves to ride in the car. His favorite place to go is Big Wags. He LOVES homemade dog treats. He will follow you to the end of the earth if he knows you have a Big Wag treat in your possession, like a heat seeking missile. He doesn’t let anything get in his way including his younger brother Julian who adopted us when he was 3 months old. Julian was dumped on the side of the road and picked up by Rogers Humane Society. Julian is now 16 months old and will race Dugan to see who can get a Big Wag treat first. Julian also likes the selection and quality of dog toys that are at Big Wags. His favorite toy is the curly tug that looks like DNA. He will carry it around the house for hours. If I come home with a bag of Big Wag treats they know immediately and will start drooling. They like that the treats are all natural ingredients and made with love. They are the happiest when they can lounge on the couch and eat Big Wag treats.
